INSUFFICIENT OF VITAL NUTRIENTS
The hair requires a range of nutrients to stay alive. The presumption is that both DHT and estrogen-like chemicals arrest the hair follicle by binding to it too tightly. Even without these chemicals, a person lacking in these nutrients will experience hair loss.

There have been tests on mice which show the effect of a deficiency of specific vitamins or minerals. Scientists blocked the genes in mice responsible for the maintenance of the hair and scalp. These genes are in turn generally regulated by vitamin D. The result was rickets and hair loss with dermal cysts occuring quite early on. When scientists injected naturally "nude" mice with vitamin D, they started growing hair at a disquieting rate.

It has been demonstrated that copper and zinc, if both lacking, increase alopecia. In fact, a copper peptide was shown to cause hair growth in the skin around the wound of a person. Copper peptide was originally used as healing accelerant.
