Whether a homeowner is shopping for a small or a large bird feeder they can find pretty much any style and design that one can imagine. It will all come down to personal preference and where the unit is going to be placed to make the decision as to what they end up selecting.

Before buying any style of bird feeder, it is best to decide where it will be placed. If there is very few trees in the yard this could make placement quite complex. Even if there are trees but they are away from the house this pretty much defeats one purpose of giving the birds a food source. The biggest goal of adding one of these models in the garden is to be able to enjoy watching all the different kinds of birds that partake of it.

When there are no convenient trees in close proximity of the house then a homeowner can just choose a large bird feeder that is mounted. These can vary from ones that hang from what some might call garden hooks nearly 5 to 6 feet off of the ground to ones that can be placed on poles.

For smaller birds you can get large models that actually are attached to the side of the house. But while these are wonderful to look at and are made in good taste they tend to not do well at getting birds. Some models can even mount on windows or attach right to the wall, although the latter version is often not preferred by homeowners due to the potential damage it can cause on the outer surface of the home.

Mounted units can even be fixed on the edges of decks on the railing. These are best used when they are higher or farther off from people. Too close such as to outside play gyms where the youngsters play and make all kinds of noise and it will not bring in the wild birds. Too far and you just won't be able to see the wild birds easily as they partake of the bird seed that you supply.

Homeowners can include the large bird feeder mounted parallel to the deck on a pole if it is not huge but then they will have the problem of predators. You will often have problems with squirrels in any case. No need to add the cats into the mix who want more to eat than all the bird seed.

No matter what style of large bird feeder you purchase make sure that it will match the layout of your yard and give you plenty of chance to watch birds as they enjoy eating and relaxing.
